From data to decisions: A major step forward for benefits teams

    Global Benefits, AI, HR Transformation
    Read time: 3 min

`In most large organizations, benefits are the second-largest people cost after compensation. It touches every employee, every country, every year. And yet it is the only major cost category that still doesn’t have its own platform.

HR has one. Payroll has one. Finance and Procurement have had theirs for decades.

Benefits has... a shared drive, a collection of vendor portals, and a whole lot of institutional knowledge.

The result is plans, vendors, renewals, and employee entitlements are fragmented across hundreds of systems, spreadsheets, and local relationships (not to mention languages).

Every country owns a piece. Nobody owns the whole thing.

Spend rises faster than headcount, compliance obligations multiply, and the gap between what the company pays for and what the employee experiences gets wider every year.

Most benefits leaders know this. They’ve lived it. The question has never been whether the problem exists, but how to solve it.

    Why now?

A lot is happening in the world of benefits right now, and these converging forces make it impossible to keep putting off the problem.

The EU Pay Transparency Directive is pulling benefits into the reporting perimeter, not just the budget. ESG disclosures and local audit requirements are following suit. CFOs are asking for the same oversight that they have over payroll, and Centers of Excellence are being asked to do more with less (more countries, less people).

All of this and without the platform leverage that every other HR function has.

This can’t be solved with your HRIS; it covers the employee record, not the benefits program. You can’t solve it with your broker; they execute placement, they don’t govern your strategy. And you can’t solve it with a spreadsheet that doesn’t survive a merger, an audit, or a CFO question.

    Global benefits needs something purpose-built.

What Origin's new Insights capabilities deliver

Origin becomes the foundation for a new global benefits operating system. It brings together every benefit, every cost, every vendor, and every country into one structured platform. Then, it turns that foundation into something you can act on.

You move from chasing information to advancing your benefits program with confidence. Insight triggers action, governance is built in, and benefits stop standing still.

The result is faster decisions, lower risk, and enterprise benefits that finally deliver for your people and your business.

Origin gives benefits leaders the visibility, intelligence, and governance they’ve long been missing. And the release we just shipped - the biggest update since Origin launched - strengthens all three pillars of the platform.

Let's explore in more detail what that looks like.

    VISIBILITY:

See your full portfolio in one place

The Benefits area in Origin has been restructured into two complementary sections: 'Monitor' for portfolio-level oversight, and 'Manage' for day-to-day administration.

Monitor gives benefits leaders dashboards organized by benefit category, such as Health, Risk, Retirement, and Global. You can filter by country and region, and can also drill deeper into underlying records. Spend, trends, action statuses, and service expiry alerts are all surfaced in one view.

Manage replaces the previous benefits overview with a cleaner structure: every benefit sits with its full history. Renewals, amendments, and cost changes are now visible in one place.

For the first time, teams can answer “what is happening across our benefits program?” in a few clicks, rather than a few weeks.

    INTELLIGENCE:

Spot risks and savings, without going looking

This release introduces embedded insights that surface findings across your benefits program automatically.

A curated set runs out of the box, flagging things like:

    • Duplicated or overlapping coverage
    • Commission-only broker arrangements that may not be working in your interest
    • EU Pay Transparency risk indicators
    • Mental health and pandemic exclusions in plan design
    • Vendor contract governance gaps
    • Benefit design inconsistencies across regions

These don’t live in a separate reporting module. They surface inside the Monitor dashboards and are categorized by criticality, so you know where to focus first.

And teams can create their own custom insights tailored to their organization’s specific needs, whether that’s utilization gaps, regional cost outliers, or design inconsistencies specific to their program.

The shift is meaningful: instead of commissioning an annual diagnostic or rebuilding analysis from scratch each renewal cycle, Origin actively shows you where to look.
    GOVERNANCE:

Know what changed, when, and why

Long-running benefits like pensions change repeatedly over their lifetime. Until now, reconstructing the current state of a plan meant cross-referencing the original document, multiple amendment letters, and trustee notes. And, often, this information was held by different people in different countries.

Origin’s new Amendments capability changes that. Teams can now formally record changes at a specific point in time, while preserving the base definition. The timeline of how the benefit evolved is clear. You always know the current state and exactly how it got there.

Every benefit now also carries its full history across periods, with a dedicated history page and audit feed. Renewals sit alongside the benefit itself, with a broader renewals upgrade coming later this quarter.

    This is just the foundation

What we shipped today is advancing your infrastructure.

The visibility, intelligence, and governance layers of Origin create a scalable framework for everything we’re building, including enhanced renewals workflows, statutory benefits visibility, and the extension of amendments across more benefit types.
